Easy paper flowers for Mother’s Day

Here is an idea for an easy Mother’s Day craft for younger children. They will probably need a bit of help but there are fewer steps than with the carnations.

Materials:

Coloured Paper

Scissors or a guillotine

Ruler

Wire (The length of a stem)

 

 

Method:

STEP 1: 

Measure and cut paper into 10cm x10cm square- you will need 1 1/22 of these squares per flower (or 15cm x 15cm for a bigger flower)

 

 

STEP 2:

Cut each square in half, so you have two long pieces of coloured paper (3 of these are needed for one flower). Follow these instructions for each long piece of paper!

Fold in half length wise.

 

 

 

 

 

Fold each corner on the open side, down towards the folded edge, like a dog ear. Do this on both sides of your oblong.

 

 

 

Fold the top down on each side towards your folded edge.

Make 3 of these and we can create a flower.

 

 

STEP 3: 

Grab your 3 folded oblongs and hold with your fingers. Lean some wire in the middle and enough at the top to be able to fold it down and around your paper. Once this is folded around link it back up the rest of the wire and twist together.

 

STEP 4:

Each segment (you’ll have 6 altogether) will be a petal. Grab one segment and push your finger up under the edge, you may also need to pull the tip down a bit to create a curve. Do this for each segment and you will see the petals and therefore flower emerge.

 

That is your flower all done. You can bend your wire down so it acts like a stem or just keep it pointing out if you want to push it into something. These also look beautiful in a vase with some cellophane or tissue paper in the bottom.
