Being involved in sport is not only fun, as sports can help children to build lifelong skills, confidence, self-esteem and positive attitudes.  This section describes a broad range of sports for kids to play whether age 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 years or older; in detail how to get started in each children's sport; where to get advice; what gear you will need; how much it will cost; child development through their selected sport; and how your child may progress at different ages.

Swimming is a popular recreational and competitive sport in NZ, including styles such as freestyle and backstroke   A fast paced non-contact sport that can be played in pairs, doubles and enjoyed by the whole family   Yachting is a water sport teaching skills in self reliance, teamwork and leadership skills
