Hello to You, Dear Visitor - hopefully a frequent visitor - to the Kiwi Families website

What can I do for you?

I hope to accompany you – via Kiwi Families – along your way in the terrifying minefield, amazing roller-coaster and stressfully enjoyable journey that is called parenting. I aim to offer you some strategies, wit and wisdom that will support and entertain you along the way.

I am delighted to have a chance to speak with you via this wonderful website.

My name is Diane Levy and I am passionate about helping parents to raise children whose company they can enjoy. So far, I have had the privilege of making contact with parents through face-to-face counselling, speaking throughout New Zealand, writing books ("Of course I love you…NOW GO TO YOUR ROOM!” and “They look so lovely when they’re asleep”), presenting a TV series (“Demons to Darlings”) and writing many articles.

Now, I am delighted to be asked to join the Kiwi Families website because it gives me yet another opportunity to follow my passion for helping parents – this time via the internet.

Of all the things I have done in my life, the most challenging and the most rewarding adventures have been the raising of my three children. This process has tested my patience to the extreme, pushed my endurance to limits I never knew that I had, put me through agonies and worries that I never imagined that I would have the capacity to endure, given me more sleepless nights than I can keep track of, and given me pride and pleasure and delight beyond measure.

My life story seems to have kept me in touch with parenting for the last thirty-five years and I look forward to the next thirty-five. When our older children were thirteen and eleven, we were blessed and surprised by another baby. Just as she has reached adulthood, I became a mother-in-law and now we have our first two grandchildren and I am privileged to be seeing again that amazing transformation from new-born to baby to toddler to two-year-old and beyond.

Professionally - in case you are interested – I have a degree in Psychology, have been counselling for twenty-eight years, involved in Family Therapy for twenty-four years, and in private practise for twenty years. I believe in the concept of Supervision to keep me on track, to keep me honest and to support me when I am struggling in and with my work.

My best support is Vernon, my husband of thirty-eight years. We combine fun and support and just enough disagreement to stop me getting complacent. And I certainly couldn’t survive without my women friends.

The best bumper sticker I have ever seen read “A mother’s place is in the wrong!”

Let’s proceed on this parenting journey together.
