Discussion Board: General Issues

Teachers who bully
Has anyone here come across teachers who bully their students? This seems to be an issue that is often overlooked. We are currently dealing with a teacher who we describe as a bully. This has resulted in our two sons feeling anxious, worried & having a genuine fear of their teacher. We have previously met with the teacher about her teaching style, and this resulted in her being even harder on our boys. Our sons are now terrified we will talk to her again, where they will be punished by her even further. We have discussed our concerns with the headmaster, however it seems some teachers have their own agenda at hand. Any ideas

if you have discussed this
with their teacher.. and their headmaster.. the next step is the board of education.

Put in a formal written complaint detailing your concerns, the steps you have taken and so far what the outcome has been. Address it to the board of education for your school.

I hope this works out for you, bad enough with child bullies nowadays - adult bullies.. is just too much.

Good luck shine73.

teachers that bully
Yes, I have come accross it.

Its hard to prove. They can squash a childs want to learn and succeed.

I think that teachers that bully children at school should be fired on the spot.

I stood up for my son and kept him going with loads of positive reinforcement at home. he has a wonderful teacher now and he has really redevelloped a love for school. But his self esteme and self worth are still not the ggreatest or sturdiest.

board of trustees
Write a letter directly to the board of trustees about your concerns. Outline what you have already done. Tell them that you are displeased with the lack of action of the school to rectify this matter adn they you give them a certian amount of time, or that if they have not contacted you by X date then you will be involving the ministry of education and the police.

Trust me, you will get action

Be very clear in what you want sorted out. Even take a friend or support person with you.

Dont be emotional, be very factual andf stick to the facts. Take your children to the doctor and see if he thinks that they haev developed any anxiety or depressive problems, self esteme issues etc. If so, get him to put it on paper and send a copy to the school board of trustees with your letter.

Keep a copy of everything you do, dates times peoples names that you talk to phone numbers you call, a brief outline of the phone conversation. It all counts towards getting heard. If you can go into a meeting wiht a file of what actions you have taken then you are more likely to be taken seriously.

board of trustees
they are parents themselves and they need to listen to your concerns. I wounder what the principle has done so far. By right you can move your child to another class.

why move your child?
when you can have the other one moved or stood down from school!!

The principals try to do whats best for the school, which is more $$$$ mostly.

Most principals wont act on the first sign of trouble or the first complaint about a student, simply becasue most parents wont see it through.
