Hi
My daughter has been at school for nearly half a year now. How is your 5 1/2 year old enjoying school Pozzum? Are you happy with his/her progress etc. It would be nice to hear other parent's views on their child's early schooling and how it is going. My daughter loves school but I feel she isn't being stretched enough. She is bright but is bringing home the same emergent readers. I am a teacher and feel it is difficult to approach her teacher on this as she has all her children on low level readers. It is frustrating.

Hi p0zzum, fancy seeing you here!
I have a 7yr old son and struggle to get him to read. He always thinks he can't do it and when we eventually get him to sit down and read, he has very few problems! Just have to find things he likes! At the moment it is the Scooby Doo magazines with arrive in the post for him once a month! I love reading, his father doesn't. I'm hoping he will develop my love of it!

Hi, In reply to Helen. Yes, I too feel that my 7 year old is not pushed enough and have found over the last two years she has been at school they are pushed in the direction that their teacher enjoys, not necessarily what is best for the child. My advice would be to talk to all the teachers who are options for next year and put in a specific request for one you can work really closely with to ensure your child achieves what they are capable of.

Hi Everyone ,
I have a 6yo son who loves school ,even reading ,but like you all I don't feel like he is being challenged enough and even comes home telling me he is bored !!I'm very worried that he is going to stop enjoying going to school . The other thing I have been horrified to encounter is the teachers that have been teaching my child can't spell much better than my 6 y/o . the end of last year we got sent home his writing book .Because they learn to spell through sound often the words are spelt horribly wrong but on quite a few occasions through the book his words were crossed out and the correction was even more wrong than my boys spelling.has anyone else encountered this ?

Hi all!
We have 3 daughters aged 8, 3 and 3 months.
So am in all three camps - primary school, pre-school and baby.
DD1 has been to 2 school (after shifting houses). We're really enjoying our current school as it's very small (less that 200 at the moment), and so convenient to walk there everyday.

Hi there! Yes I agree with everyone I have a 7 yr old daughter and I to feel that she is not getting challenged enough at school. She is constantly bringing the same books home for reading. Homework consists of reading, spelling and writing a sentence using the words she has had for spelling. Since she started school Math work has only come home about 3 times. I would be really interested in hearing from other parents about what type of homework their 7 yr olds get. Thanks
