Arriving in Auckland, how do I choose a school
We are in final stages of our relocation from Denmark to Auckland. We are returning expat kiwis, originally from Wellington. Our boys were babies when we left and are now 7 years old (twins). They have been in international schools until now and only attended a New Zealand school, in Wellington for 1 term, in 2008.

They will be in Year 3 but will repeat a portion of it, as we are half way through the northern school year. Here the equivalent is Grade 2. They learn with the International Baccleaureate system.

We are stumped. We arrive Christmas eve, have temporary accommodation for 1 month in Auckland city, so will need to find a house and school, or school and house...our container should arrive in February some time.

How do we choose a school in Auckland?
How do we know if it is a good one?
We are looking at state coeds but are they all good for boys?

Do you have any recommendations for schools or better areas to look at - unrelated to the decile ranking system. I can't find a school ranking system at all - that would be very useful.

Look forward to your help and advice,

Choosing a school
Hi,

You can find information on the schools from the site http://www.minedu.govt.nz/Parents/AllAges/SchoolSearch.aspx.

This will give you information based on city, region, and level/year.

All the best :)
