Role playing
I am a single Mum of a five year old boy who loves role playing and gets very involved when he is in 'character'. I don't want to put a dampner on his creativity except he gets so involved in his little world that we have issues with him listening, or not listening should I say. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

one idea is to somehow involve his roleplaying character in the real world. eg if hes superman, get superman to fly the dinner plates to teh table, or help Mum rescue the washing. If hes a truck driver, get him to drive the washing to the correct places etc.
I have sorta the same thing going on with my 4yo. He loves to help, and hes seriously into pretending to be different people. Sometimes he will pretend that he's daddy, so "daddy" has to help, just like real daddy has to!!!

How Funny
I just heard a young boy in the supermarket saying to his mum that he didn't have to hold on to the trolley because he was Superman and Superman could walk by himself. Without missing a beat the mother said, isn't that strange I was just talking to Superman's mummy and she said he definitely had to hold on to the trolley so he wouldn't fly away. He held on to the trolley! :o)

hehe...
thats cool, quick thinking on the Mum's behalf too!!
In the supermarket its like a minefield sometimes!! I watch some of the other parents struggeling to keep their sanity and I look at my boys and smile and think how lucky I am that they are so well behaved!
Ocasionally they go loose when out shopping, but I just get them to get me things I need from the shelves, and to be trolly guards.. very serious jobs those!!!
