Discussion Board: Toddlers and Pre-schoolers

My daughter is four and a half, and will not poo in the toilet. She is not constipated, and definitely has no medical issues. I put her on the toilet regularly to poo, she will try and then will poo in her knickers 10 minutes later. I have tried ignoing the problem, bribing her, taking away toys that she likes, and then returning them when she poos, all with very limited success. She will generally do it once, and then revert to her former behaviour. She is quite a wilful, defiant child, and I feel that she is doing this as a form of control. Can any one help?

Have you let her know that teh other children at school wont be doing that and that she will be laughed at?

I remember having to basically camp out beside the loo when my oldest was learning to poo on it. But, I won!!!

My son is a little sifferent but I can sympathise!!

He is TERRIFIED of his poo!! I have no idea why! but he WILL NOW poo anywhere but in his nappy!! I can't believe how long he can hold it!

And he will only use the potty without a nappy, or pants, or undies on..I cant progress him to wearing undies and then using the potty or toilet, he just pee's in his undies!!!

Hi guys - my little girl is the same! The little tyke can go for DAYS without pooing in the loo!! We have stopped using nappies during the day and only put one on her at night and she waits till its on and 10 mins later - Mummy change me please!!
She is a smart little cookie and I think she is using it as a form of control - so I will persist and continue to clean up the mess!! I am also getting her to help with the clean up and I am hoping that it will help speed up the learing process!
