Kindergarten
We have 2 kindys in our area. One takes children around their 3td bithday, the other is taking them in much much later - nearing 4 yo. Unfortunately we live very close to the late starting kindy and I feel a little sad my daughter wont be starting kindy for a while yet. I was just wondering what sort of ages children were getting into kndy around the country. I think starting kindy at nearly 4 is a little late!

our kindy
accepts from 3rd birthday, although we didn't get in until DD was about 3.5yrs because we were on the waiting list. We did wish she had started at 3 because she would've have loved it then!!!

early
My boy started at 2y 11m - but thats because his speech is a bit behind and I wanted him to be exposed to lots of other kids and adults speech (it helped a lot). Personally I think 3 is a bit early. My older girl started just before she turned 4, which worked really well for us.

kindy
Hello! My oldest boy started kindy when he was about 3 yrs 1 month, my youngest started this year when he was about 3 yrs 9 months. Both boys loved and love kindy. Its the same one for both boys. The kindy is on the other side of town, there are alot fo them around here, but they still took both my boys. Kindy is very healthy for them, allows them to develop socially.

Do you know why?
Hi there, Is the Kindy nearest to you only taking 4 year olds because they are full? or is it standard policy? You can always talk to the head teacher there and put your case for your child. Maybe you should 'shop around', though from the sounds of your post you may only have the 2 near enough to be practical. Failing that you could ask at your local Plunket for a playgroup, great for socializing (for you and bub!) Good Luck!

Try Playcentre!
Playcentre is an alternative to kindy that caters for children age birth to 6. Its a great place for children to learn all the skills they need prior to starting school and best of all parents are fully involved with their childrens education.
