Getting Organised and Clearing the Clutter in 2012

Most of us plan to lose weight, stop smoking, eat better and exercise more as our main goals for the New Year. But getting organised also makes people's top 10 listings for New Year resolutions.

So if you are one of those people who want 2010 to be the year they get their home organised and clear the clutter, then join me as I take you through a step-by-step approach to become decluttered and destressed.

Living in a disorganised and cluttered home can be very stressful and can cause unnecessary problems for those who live there.

It can be very embarrassing when friends and family turn up unannounced and you have to clear a space on the sofa for them to sit.

It can cost you money as you may often “lose” items and have to replace them, where in reality you have 10 of the same item in various areas of the house.

It can cause health problems as items are gathering dust and mould, attracting insects and other pests and not being cleaned on a regular basis.

The key to getting organised is to tackle the job in bite sized pieces. If your whole house needs attention and you don’t have a planned approach to tackling the clutter and getting organised, you will probably end up worse off than when you started.

We all have a flurry of enthusiasm when we take on a new project, but that wears off pretty quickly especially when it’s a big job. By segmenting it into smaller more achievable pieces, it doesn’t become too overwhelming.

Over the next 12 months we will go though each room in your house, plus the car and the garage and tackle the clutter issue. You will learn not only how to clear your clutter, but how to prevent it from coming back.

The first room we will address is the Master Bedroom.
