Five Minute Microwave Chocolate Mug Cake

Try this great recipe – a quick and easy dessert – for you and the kids. It goes great with a cup of coffee on a Sunday morning, or as an easy weekend dessert treat.

Prep Time 2 minutes
Cook Time 3 minutes
Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp cake flour
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp chocolate drops optional
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla essence optional

Instructions

  1. Add dry ingredients to a large mug, and mix well.

  2. Crack an egg and add it to your mug. Mix into dry ingredients with a fork, or small whisk. Be sure to mix it well to avoid any pockets of flour in the corners.

  3. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.

  4. Add the chocolate drops if you’ve got them, and a splash of vanilla essence too.

  5. Pop your mug into the microwave and cook for around 2 minutes on high power (1000watt). Or until it has stopped rising, and is firm to the touch.

  6. If necessary, run a knife around the sides of the mug, and tip the still warm cake out of the mug and onto a saucer.

Thanks for that! Good advice!

I found this rather difficult to make in a mug, not only was mixing hard but it also overflowed when in the microwave. In the end I used a 500ml Pyrex jug which worked well.
