Another Mother’s Love

This is a very frank account of what it is like to deal with Child, Youth and Family (CYF) in New Zealand. The shortcomings of the system are not swept away, and yet they aren’t presented in an unfair or angry light either. Another Mother’s Love is a very special chronicle, speaking of the years it can take in the CYF system to make a difference; for them to achieve what is needed for even one very needy child in their care. It is primarily a story of a mother’s heart and the way a child can so completely ingrain our souls and make it impossible to function without them – even if we have to learn how to do so.

The conclusion

This book is something I would recommend to myriads of people I have come across – those who are in the CYF system already, those who have ever considered fostering and those who are just interested in what lies behind some of those castaway comments often made and heard about how children end up in such bad situations in our nation. It’s a page turner – the sort of book that will cause you to stay up late so you can follow the ups and downs of this family, and to find out why their little boy couldn’t remain theirs forever. This story will stay with you. Very highly recommended.
