What happens when a very large dinosaur just can’t stop himself dancing, even though the little tiny dinosaurs need safe areas to play in? Brachio tells the tale of the big, gentle dinosaur who takes care of those around him without compromising his own fun.

I’m liking

This is a very imaginative story, with some frenzied dancing dinos who love to boogie. I like the contrast of strong and slightly scary, together with gentle and protective Brachio who cares for the vulnerable mouse lizards while everyone else is going ‘wiggle wiggle bump’. This book is full of rhyme and onomatopoeia. I like the fact that you are carried through at quite a pace by the way the text is laid out, and you can have this book read in no time at all! :):)

Accompanying this story is a CD with a chime every time the page should be turned, which makes it ideal as an alternative activity to screen watching.

The images are beautiful and engaging, Brachio has a look about him that is so engaging and spot on. Well done to illustrator Richard Hoit.

Things that made me go hmmmm

So much wiggle, wiggle, bumping is a little labourious to read at times, hence my comment above about appreciating the pace that moves you through the text quickly.

The conclusion

It’s an enjoyable book with a lovely message about the big taking care of the small and vulnerable, handled in an easy and fast-paced way – a great title by Jill Eggleton that retails for $24.95.
