You can own the complete adventures of Hairy Maclary in one volume. And it comes with a CD reading the stories and telling the background of where the stories came from. This volume is actually a kiwi kid’s dream come true!

I’m liking

My son was *so* excited seeing this book. His almost 4 year old self just loves Hairy Maclary and the adventures he knows so well. Having the stories read (introduced by Lynley Dodd) on CD is just magical, and any child who knows the stories well will easily follow along. I loved that not only the super well known stories (Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy, Scattercat, Showbusiness etc.) but also those that you don’t see and hear so often (Hairy Maclary and Zachary Quack, Hat Tricks, Shoo etc.)

Things that made me go hmmmm

When you put ten stories in one volume, it’s a beautiful thing – but also slightly unwieldy. The book is a pretty big picture book, heavy and slightly difficult for a small child to really locate one story in the volume.

The conclusion

If you don’t own many (or any) Hairy Maclary books, then you really should. And this is a very economical way to get your hands on the whole set. It’s a sure fire way to excite small people for the upcoming festive season! They’ll listen to the CD for hours.

Hairy Maclary Treasury by Lynley Dodd is published by Puffin (Penguin Random House New Zealand), and has an RRP of $50.00.
