Did you know the zoo animals go home to suburbia at night when the zoo closes? Yes siree. And they return to work the next day just like anybody else! That’s the premise of How Does the Giraffe get to Work? by Christopher Llewelyn, illustrated by Scott Tulloch.

I’m liking

Cool pictures present lots to talk about with little people. There are reasonably unique animals in the mix, so something to be learnt by all!
Some of the pictures are pretty funny to my preschooler, like a rhino sitting on a toilet as part of his morning routine.
The storyline is a pretty unique, out there one, and will appeal to the sense of humour of lots of young readers. There are also lots of modes of transport represented in this book, which will delight many small people.

Things that made me go hmmmm

Some of the pages are pretty wordy rhymes which it can be a struggle to get through.

The conclusion

This is a fun little title. I’m not sure it will stand up to lots and lots of reading aloud, but I think early readers will get the hang of it and enjoy it.
