Standing in line can be dull, but not when you mix tigers and frogs, sheep and skunks. But what could be worth waiting for…? From Japanese writer and illustrator Tomoko Ohmura, Line Up, Please is a new release from Gecko Press.

I’m liking

The best kids’ books are subtle enough to appeal to both kids and their long-suffering parents. And Line Up, Please! Is one of the best! This book is full of humour and I found myself giggling away throughout the book. There’s also a lovely surprise when you find out what everyone is waiting for.

I loved the range of animals in the story and the gorgeous way that each has its own character.

Things that made me go hmmmm

The book is a little challenging to read aloud as it is full of snippets of dialogue and conversation. It’s part of the charm of the book but does require some attention to read.

The conclusion

Such a brilliant book. It moves to a hilarious climax and on first reading, you’ll be dying to know what the animals are waiting for. Subsequent readings are still fun as you notice the quicks of the animals and anticipate the…. well, you’ll have to read it and find out 🙂
