Rhyme & Reo is a fun way to learn Te Reo. At the Zoo is a tale about two kids having a fun day out at the zoo. They see all the regular animals as they head around the zoo. The story mixes up both English and Te Reo, which is a great way to learn the language.
I’m liking
Rhyme and Reo is really well thought out. Each page has a tips section that breaks down the language, vowel sounds, macron use, phonics, etc. making it super-easy for parents to sound out words they haven’t seen before.
The mix of English and Te Reo is a really interesting way to read the story, and it’s less intimidating for English speakers with very little Te Reo.
For such a little book there’s also whole sections on pronunciation and glossary definitions. It’s just a great little resource.
Anything to improve?
The book is for pre-school and primary school aged children. It may not hold the attention of 7-8 year olds, as the story is quite light. But it’s purpose is really to introduce Te Reo.
Conclusion
This really is a great little Te Reo resource. For parents with little, or even no Te Reo, there are plenty of helpful tips. And I can really see kids and adults learning along together. This is a great follow up to the first book Rhyme and Reo a, e, i, o, u.
