Marie Kondo’s latest book on how to tidy your house once and for all is a great read – if you haven’t already read her original book the Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

I’m liking

In many ways, this book is a better guide than her original book but if you’ve already read the first, the “magic” sparkle is missing. It’s hard to distinguish what is new in this book (very little). However, she does assume you’ve read the first book – there’s less of an overall description of her method of how she recommends tidying up.

The advantages here are that there’s beautiful little illustrations – especially helpful for folding clothing according to her method, and there’s also examples of her flexing her rules and pointing out her imperfections. I thought I was ruthless at throwing out stuff and making do without them – she is extreme!

The book fills in a lot of holes and questions you might have after reading the first book, which is really helpful. I really like Marie Kondo’s work and have been going more and more minimal since reading it.

Things that made me go hmmmm

I wish her two books were combined into one volume with illustrations, real photos and feedback from her clients too.

The conclusion

I would still recommend her first book and say the second is an optional extra if you want more details. It would feel weird giving this book as a gift or recommending it to people without seeming like you’re judging their house!
