Chosen with 6 and 7 year olds in mind, these are energetic collections of wonderful children’s stories. They are written by some of New Zealand’s leading writers for children such as Kate de Goldi, Barbara Else, Sandy McKay and Jane Buxton, as well as other seasoned and up-and-coming writers.

I’m liking

These are such great stories. All are interesting, some are surprising, some are intriguing, others are humorous. These are short stories at their very best.

The Stories for 6 Year Olds stories are simpler than those in Stories for 7 Year Olds, which are a definite step up in complexity. However, my 5.5 year old was able to handle both books and she really enjoyed the stories that contained humour.

The writers of these stories clear understand their audience and it’s a real delight to read these stories that are so clearly targeted. I imagine that my daughter will also enjoy revisiting them as she begins to read more complex books herself.

The conclusion

Great stories for reading aloud to 5-10ish year olds or for reading by more independent readers. Wonderful books.
