I had the pleasure of going to the Kidz Stuff theatre performance of The Princess and the Pea. Mr 4 came along to give me his expert opinion and he gave it the two thumbs up. The show is a small scale production with just four actors and a simple stage, but big in talent and humour.

I’m liking

The relaxed setting of the show meant that the kids (and parents) could sit on the ground in front of the stage. This allowed the characters to engage the children and make them involved in the show. From pretending to be growing vegetables to screaming directions to the characters; the kids loved being part of the show.

The acting was brilliant and the humour was the perfect level for children. The length of the show was also ideal (approx 50 minutes) – long enough to get the theatre experience but short enough to keep those with a limited attention span interested.

Another great thing about taking your kids along to this performance is that there are no expensive snacks to purchase. You can take your own snacks for the kids to munch on while watching the show.

Things that made me go hmmmm

Parking in Mt Victoria is not plentiful with resident parking and 60 minute parking limits. Luckily for us, the show was less than 60 minutes! I’d recommend getting there early to get a park close to the venue.

The conclusion

The Princess and the Pea is a fun and well produced show for children. Both my son and I really enjoyed it. The actors were endearing and funny, and the story entertaining.

I think an excited statement from a boy in the audience a few minutes into the show sums it up well “This is going to be AWESOME!”
