Going on a holiday or weekend getaway with the family is a great way to escape from your day to day routine, create long lasting memories and spend quality time together. To make planning a family holiday a little easier, we asked holiday website Wotif to share their top tips for getting bang for buck out of your next family trip.

Make your holiday budget stretch even further and get a travel bargain by trying these tips:

  • Mates Rates: Sign up as a member to ‘Mates Rates’ by creating an account on Wotif.co.nz and you could save more than 10% on select hotels in New Zealand and around the world.
  • Package savings: Just like bundling together your internet and phone plan to save money, combining flights and accommodation in a Wotif holiday package offers you a special rate that’s not available when booking hotel and flights separately. This can mean a cheaper trip overall. You can choose to sort the package options by ‘package discount’, or even by ‘price’: www.wotif.co.nz/holidays
  • Travel mid-week: If you’re flying domestically, extend your holiday by a day or two and try and travel before and after weekend dates.
  • Search for value-adds: Look for hotel inclusions like ‘breakfast’ or ‘parking’. On Wotif, families can choose to find accommodation with these added extras by ticking the options in the ‘hotel preferences’ list.
