If you were thinking school fundraising cookbooks were the variety that is spiral bound and a simple list of recipes in a basic typeset…. well it would appear those days are over. Or at very least, those others have been surpassed by Auckland’s Balmoral School. Everyday Easy Eats is a stunningly presented, hardcover cookbook that rivals any you’ll find in a bookstore.

I’m liking

This is actually a great collection of recipes. Some are very basic – it’s quite a good book to work from if you’re cooking with kids. My son loves the date rice crispy bites (‘Elliots Date Bites’) and so long as I handle the heating bit, he (at four) makes them with ease.

The photographs and typography are stylish and it’s a colourful, playful book that’s lovely to flick through. There are a few celebrity recipe additions which are a nice touch. Many of the recipes are fairly traditional, but some have a really current touch – there are some GF, HFLC, paleo-esque bits and pieces.
LeeAnn Yare (of Collected fame) has had a heavy hand of involvement here and her signature style is all over Everyday Easy Eats, which is a great thing.

Things that made me go hmmmm

The cost of producing this grand title was obviously offset by the inclusion of some advertising. Sometimes it fits into the background. It’s understandable. But I still find it marginally annoying 😉

The conclusion

It’s a really lovely book and you’re supporting a good cause purchasing it. Why not?

Everyday Easy Eats (a collection of loved recipes from Friends of Balmoral School). RRP $45.
