We find the Urban Elite double a great buggy. Extremely sturdy, good to use and with one exception a fantastic design. We would have no hesitation in rating 5-star, but for one design drawback.
The steel footplate on the buggy is in two sections, a back-plate and a foot-plate which are perpendicular to each other with a gap of about 2cm between them
When the buggy is collaped (eg for travelling in the car boot) , the footplate folds around under the buggy. As the buggy is raised up to lock into the assembled position, the gap between the footplate and the backplate is the perfect distance to trap unwary fingers as the footplace scissors around and locks into position.
It is very easy to do, as the backplate (seems) to be the perfect place to grab and hoist the buggy up to lock it into the assembled mode. The gap should have been designed wide enough so that fingers can slide freely out, unfortunately it is not and I have been caught twice – admittedly the second time was my own fault as I should have learnt the first time. It is extremely painful!
Adding a couple of cm between the backplate and the footplate would finger-proof the buggy for the unwary (or those that don’t learn).
With the exception of this one issue, we have found the double buggy fantastic and in every other respect a well thought out and designed buggy that is well constructed from quality materials.
We have been using the Urban Elite Double now for six months. We have used it with a single carrycot attachment for the first three months of that time – children using the buggy are now 6mths (8kg) and 2.5yrs (14kg).The buggy has been fantastic. It has worked really well for transporting both our baby and preschooler, or either of them individually.Despite it looking really wide, we have had few issues with it not fitting through doorways (remember it’s only about 7cm wider than the std single buggy) or down aisles in shops. It is easy to push – even one handed when loaded, and on most terrains. I love the way I can choose between the fixed or swivel wheel, but TBH I usually have it swivelling. The buggy has been incredibly stable and can carry quite a load when out shopping. :-)We (passengers included) like the new style of front zipping covers. They are easy to adjust for the comfort of both passengers and easy to get children in and out through.The only drawback is, that due to the slightly narrower seating positions, the single carrycot used in the double buggy is slightly narrower again that the one used in the single buggy. We found that we unfortunately ended up using this for far less time than we had the carrycot on our single buggy, as our daughter simply outgrew it width-wise. Hope you understand what I mean!Overall I think this is a great buggy and don’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone in need of a double.
