Supertato Run, Veggies, Run! is written by Sue Hendra. It’s sports day in the supermarket and all the veggies are in training. Everyone has been practising hard and is ready and raring to go…

However, a new competitor joins the event, accompanied by The Evil Pea, and is determined to win all the prizes. Things don’t seem quite right… but will Supertato be able to foil his nemesis’ plan in time?

I’m liking

I will admit, I had never seen a Supertato book before seeing this one. But apparently it’s a pretty popular series of books and I can see why.

This book is laugh-out-loud funny and my Miss 4 really gets the humour. For starters, it’s based around a superhero who is a potato; what kids don’t love a super hero… and potatoes! And the bad guy is a pea, which also makes sense 🙂

The illustrations are bright, colourful and expressive. And it is set out a little like a comic, with fun word-play and great sound words. It’s all really over the top, which makes it just perfect for beginner readers!

Conclusion

Overall this was a fun and engaging book to read. It is perfect for pre-schoolers and early readers (and any kids who don’t like peas!)
