If you’re looking for good-quality, budget-friendly family accommodation in Nelson, look no further than Tahuna Beach Kiwi Holiday Park and Motel.

With accommodation options from small tent sites to campervan parks, from affordable cabins to good-quality, self-contained apartment units, and even a full house that can be booked, there’s something to suit every budget here.

Our favourite thing about Tahuna Beach has to be the kid’s activities on offer.

With a couple of playgrounds, inflatable bouncer, giant connect 4 and chess, and their very own mini golf, the kids will keep themselves entertained!

The accommodation

We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment unit at Tahuna Beach Kiwi Holiday Park, and we were really impressed.

The apartment units are all located together, with plenty of space between them for privacy, each with their own small deck for late evening summer drinks.

The apartments are more like little houses. Ours had a decent sized kitchen and open plan lounge and dining. The bedrooms were large and warm, and the beds were really comfy. The unit was newer, clean, and really well presented. It really did feel like staying in a Motel.

The only thing to critique would be the size of the TV. It was perfectly decent as it was. But a larger, slimline TV in full HD, would improve the experience (we love watching movies after the kids go down!). Apart from that, the accommodation is spot on.

The holiday park

Aside from the awesome kid’s activities, there’s lots of amenities at Tahuna Beach Holiday Park. The kitchen/toilet/laundry/lounge facility was exceptional. The block is a newer, well-designed space, and was a real joy to go through. This is nothing like the functional, cement block buildings you usually find in a campground!

There’s also a small store and restaurant at the reception area. We didn’t have breakfast there, but the meals I saw going out looked delicious.

The camping accomodation looks fantastic, with much of the park all on the flat, and lots of trees around for shade in the summer sun.

Apparently in summer they even host gigs and outdoor movies in their natural amphitheater.

When we were there in early Autumn, there were still a lot of campervans using the park, and many of the units appeared full too. I imagine this place is fairly bustling in the summer time!

Around the park

Tahuna Beach Kiwi Holiday Park is really well located.

Tahunanui Beach is located right in front of the campground. It’s a great beach for walking that stretches out for miles in each direction. It was a little cool for us to go swimming in April, but the autumn sun was still hot, and the holiday park faces North, so gets the last of the sunshine.

Just a 10-15 minute walk from the park is Tahunanui Fun Park, with it’s bumper boats and water slides, Tahunanui Reserve, and the fantastic Natureland Zoo, a small wildlife and conservation park.

There’s also motor go-karts, roller skating, a model railway, laser tag, and even SUP boarding and kitesurfing lessons.

And within just a few minute’s drive from the park is the World of Wearable Art Museum, Pics Peanut Butter factory, Founders Park, and the fantastic Miyazu Gardens.

And all the other major Nelson attractions are within 5-15km from the park. It’s such a great little city for getting around!

Conclusion

Tahuna Beach Kiwi Holiday Park and Motel has to be one of the best budget-friendly family accommodation options in Nelson. It’s one of the better campgrounds we’ve stayed in around the country.

There’s just so much to do in and around the park. The staff are friendly and helpful. The accommodation is top-notch, and really well priced, and the park is clean and tidy, with top-quality facilities.

This is a well-located base to explore Nelson from. And with all the activities just a stone’s throw from the park, make your stay here more than just a few days.

Easily 5 stars from us, we’ll definitely be back!
