At some stage in all our lives, death and grieving is something we must all face. Sometimes it’s sudden, sometimes a prolonged and often agonising journey for all involved.
We’ve all heard the saying, there’s only two things in life we can be certain of – death and taxes!
But jokes aside, death is something which can bring incredible grief to individuals and families. The death of a loved one with whom we have spent and shared many years of our life. The death of a newborn baby. The loss of a dear friend, a buddy, a mate. The passing away of a child, a young person no longer among us.
If you have ever faced any of these circumstances you will know first hand the pain, sometimes the anger, and always the inevitable question, why?
You know that words, no matter how well intended cannot always comfort. Often words cannot describe your loss and sorrow.
So what can do in your time of sorrow, your time of grief? Receive comfort from family and friends, most definitely. But there are also groups within our communities who can help. There are a range of professional organisations and individuals (perhaps another parent who empathises) who are trained to provide support and direction for those facing times of grief, and who can help to understand the stages of grief, the mourning process, and bereavement. In this section we overview Grief & Death support groups in NZ - providing support, advice, assistance, counselling.
Remember, at Kiwi Families we’re here to be of assistance to you as parents. If there is anything you would like to see on this website relating to grief issues, perhaps another support group, then please contact us. We will do our best to source the information and place it on the website for future reference for others.
