I was nervous about this book as I have a funny, slightly puritanical reaction to Blake’s other books – Poo Bum and Stupid Baby. For example, I read ‘Stupid Baby’ as ‘Silly Baby’. A bit daft, I know… but that’s what I do 😉 So I was a bit nervous upon seeing a new Stephanie Blake book. But hooray! I *love* it! It’s in Blake’s usual simple, repetitive style and totally nails the experiences of child who is nervous about starting school. I Don’t Want To Go To School is an absolutely MUST-READ book for any small person who is anxious about going to school.
The illustrations are bright, colourful, simple, but also totally engaging.
The conclusion
A near-on perfect picture book. It has enough subtlety to work for an almost-5-year old as well as being appealing for younger children as well. It’s nice to spend some more time with the Rabbit family.
