Wolf is an easy to read dark thriller, by popular international best seller Mo Hayder. This novel is the 7th in the Detective Jack Caffery series.
I’m liking
A home is broken into and the family is taken hostage. Family members are separated into separate rooms and readers get to go through their individual experiences with each of them.
The only clue that anybody has of the crime is a lost dog, making for a suspenseful read as the story unfolds. It’s a chilling story, with some interesting twists.
Things that made me go hmmmm
Being the 7th novel to feature Caffery, this is no small saga. It’s clear at this point that readers are in for the long haul! Caffery doesn’t play such a leading role in this story – along he comes to find the dog’s owner with his own agenda in mind. All he has to go on is intuition as he walks the neighbourhood where the dog was found. This makes for a bit of an exploration of human nature as well as the unfolding drama.
The conclusion
Well-crafted and worth a read if you don’t mind a bit of gore and some creepy content, even if you haven’t followed the entire series.
