Bright, funky, accessible and full of humour, The Adventures of Walter Weta and Flutter the Fantail trips through New Zealand and we get to see the highlights with them. I particularly loved the VW camper and Walter and Flutter’s ferry trip. the With visits to various iconic New Zealand sites, this book is a great way to talk about different areas of New Zealand and their various features – including the flora and fauna.
Things that made me go hmmmm
Writing and illustrating children’s books is tough business and I found that I responded more to Dennis glorious images than the text. However, the text is humorous and good natured and my five year old very much enjoyed reading along with me.
The conclusion
Like Dennis’s earlier book, Aotearoa to Zespri – The New Zealand ABC Book, The Adventures of Walter Weta and Flutter the Fantail would make a splendid Christmas present, especially for friends and family overseas.
