Winner of The Great British Bake Off in 2011, Jo Wheatley has released her second cook book: Home Baking. Jam-packed with both sweet and savoury recipes, Home Baking is suitable for both seasoned bakers and those who are not so familiar with the workings of their oven. Lovely introductions get you enthusiastic about the different items you can create, and beautiful pictures will make your mouth water.

I’m liking

There’s good breadth to the recipes on offer here. Chapter titles include:
Biscuits, Bars and Cookies
Bread and Scones
Cakes
Baking with Children
Crumbles, Tarts and Pithiviers
Quiches, Pasties, Pies and Savoury Puddings
Quick and Simple
Special Occasions
Supper Bakes
Teatime Treats

Of particular note is the Baking With Children chapter – Jo is passionate about teaching children to cook and bake. This is obvious, and the recipes included are things that don’t have to look too beautiful, but are yummy and practical projects to include children in.

Lots of the recipes are original and inspiring, most use fairly generic ingredients and I can’t wait to produce the Christmas Bakewell Tart from this title for the upcoming festive season!

The conclusion

The RRP on this title is $49.99. It’s hard cover and I Iike the versatility on offer that sets it apart from similar baking books. From breads to bundt cakes, there’ll be something here you’re bound to love and bake often! Home Baking is available from FishPond.
