New in Dave Gunson’s children’s wildlife pictures books is NZ Plants. With 24 pages of full colour images that explore our native and common flora, it is a great board book for teaching kids about the world around them.

I’m liking

The bright, vivid pictures on colourful backgrounds make plant identification easy in this title. The pictures generally present both the full plant/tree – with figures that offer an idea of scale – and a zoomed in image of a branch, flowers etc.

Both English and Maori names are used for the plants.

The conclusion

A great, sturdy board book that can be used for enjoyment and educational purposes, NZ Plants is a recommended addition to the home library shelf or for use in schools and childcare. Perfect for 2-5 year olds.
