One day a little boy named Brody starts at a new school. Brody has special needs and this story tells how his classmates come to realise that it’s ok to be different.

What’s really nice about this book is that Brody’s different but he’s also good at things and the narrator discovers that although Brody can’t say all of the kids names, he can play games and ride horses just like everyone else.

It’s Ok was written by Kiwi mum, Jo Heslop. Heslop’s son Cody has been diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome – a rare genetic condition and she wrote this book to show that it’s ok to be different. With gorgeous illustrations by Annie Roska, this book is a lovely way to open a conversation about the fact that everyone is different and everyone has their own strengths. This would be a great resource for teachers or parents wanting to about special needs with children.
