I’m Liking:

I am a HUGE fan of the Moby wrap, I have it in 5 different colours. I have used it almost exclusively with newborns for the past 4 years. I LOVE how you can just get on with your day even with a fractious little one. I love how you can unstack a dishwasher, load a washing machine, clean and tidy, and I was once even stopped at a supermarket to ask where I got it from because I lifted the groceries out of the trolley and into the footwell of the car with ease….

The weight of the baby is evenly distributed over the fabric on your shoulders and lower back, so unless the crossover on the back is too high so you are feeling it in your shoulders, I find there is no drag on the upper body.

I like how secure the baby feels, and how easily they settle, my rule of thumb is if they don’t settle within 2-3 minutes of going in and having movement, they are not going to. They do go into a lovely deep sleep though, so if trying to stick to any kind of routine you need to allow about 15 minutes for them to cool down to wake up…. this is not a bad thing, but they can oversleep due to the warmth and movement.

It is easy to get on once you know how – that may take some time, but I can now get it on in under a minute.

Easy to wash, can be tumble dried – it does shrink a bit the first time though.

No elastane in them – so there is no bounce, they are 100% cotton.

Things that make me go hmmm:

I think it is the amount of fabric and how hot you can get. It has as many as 3 layers where it crosses over. The origami of it all used to make me go hmmm, but not anymore.

Extra for Experts:

I once went out for a brisk walk with a Moby wrap on and a baby in just a nappy and singlet… and although we were both steaming when we got back, I took his temperature and it was perfectly normal, so he wasn’t overheating. I was though…

As a breastfeeding mum, you could almost hang around with just a breastfeeding bra (or not), the wrap and the baby in the house – just remember to put a shirt on if you are going out.

It is comfy front carrying a little baby and up to maybe six months old (depending on how heavy baby is). Really the early days are where it is invaluable, an older/heavier baby starts to get a little uncomfortable. I tried it on the back but got frustrated with it not sitting right or comfortably.

The Conclusion:

A brilliant, BRILLIANT piece of kit for a newborn and for a parent who wants to be able to soothe their baby with relative ease (I’m thinking colicky, refluxy, overtired baby here) whilst getting on with the things that need to be done. Perfect when you have a toddler also, as you can, when necessary still pick up a toddler for a quick cuddle. It is a reasonably priced wrap and I recommend them to everyone.

About the Moby Wrap

Mobyâ„¢ Wrap Baby Carriers are amazingly comfortable and easy to wear! The design of the Mobyâ„¢ Wrap uses your entire back, as well as your shoulders, to carry the weight of your baby. Unlike other carriers, which have narrow straps or go across one shoulder, the Mobyâ„¢ Wrap is a wide piece of fabric that is wrapped over both shoulders and tied on your waist. There are no buckles, snaps or other fasteners which make wearing simple. The Mobyâ„¢ Wrap is long enough to fit all sizes of baby wearers and babies – preemie to 16 kg.

The Moby Baby Wrap costs around $70-$80
