The Set up

The Moai can be used as either a sling or a front carrier and different components of the Moai are used for different configurations. We’re not reviewing the hammock arrangement in this reviw.

I’m liking 

Bronwyn from Moai has put a lot of thought into the design of this product and has tried to make it as versatile and useful as it can possibly be. I love the idea that you can transfer your sleeping child from a range situations without having to wake them up.

The Moai comes in a some delicious fabrics and you can even customise your own Moai if you want to.

The Moai is also great value. At $149 for the basic kit or $199 for the full package, you’re getting a product that you can use in a whole range of situations- no need to buy a separate hammock as well as a carrier.

Things that made me go hmmm…

It is a bit more bulky as a front carrier. Because it also works as a hammock, there’s more fabric involved than, say, the pouches or slings. Bronwyn has recently added adjustment straps to the top of the Moai so that you can pull it in when you are wearing it as a front pack and this pulls the fabric in.

Again, because of the versatility of the Moai, it did take me a while to figure out how to use it properly. However, there is a YouTube video available to help you get the hang of using it.

As a sling, the Moai is easy to use and very easy to pop the baby in.

The conclusion

Big thumbs up to Bronwyn for her creativity and cleverness in creating this multi-purpose baby carrier. I don’t think I’d wear this for a long walk but it’s fab for transferring your baby / child short distances and the fact that they can stay asleep while you move them around is a real bonus. It would be a useful carrier if you were popping out to the shops and wanted to leave your baby sleeping from hammock to car to carrier.
