With an excellent reputation and being the only nappy with a dedicated slot in our pre-birth Plunket Pepe classes, Honey Child nappies had a lot to live up to when I trialled them. Honey Child are a pocket nappy system, with a unique ‘Hydrofab’ insert and a cover with poppers to do it up. They come in three different sizes and a variety of colours.
I’m liking
Honey Child are made in New Zealand which is an automatic plus in my books. The insert truly is very absorbent – you can also get Honey Child boosters but I haven’t trialled these. It is the nappy with the best absorbency and the fastest drying time that I have used. Honey Child truly lives up to its many claims, detailed on http://www.honeychildnz.com. The fit is great.
Things that made me go hmmmm
Perhaps only that there are three different sizes of nappy so you are consquently having a greater outlay than a birth to potty nappy. This is countered by getting a great number of children through the same nappy as the number of washes is less than a birth to potty nappy.
The conclusion
These proved to be the creme de la creme of the cloth nappy world. There is little not to like about the Honey Child – the lady that presented them to our Pepe group literally only had 12 nappies and she said she never ran out and never used a drier – rain, hail or shine. I was in disbelief at this statement but seeing how quickly they dry, I can see how you could get by with less Honey Child than most other cloth nappies. They would work out to $36.17 per nappy if you purchased the ‘full time’ set from their website.
For those who are apposed to the non-natural fibre, Honey Child would not be the nappy for you. They are a polyester outer and a polyester/polymide inner.
