Baby First nappies are cute and excellent performers. They come as a coloured outer with dome snaps and two separate fleecy, double-layered inners. You can use both inners (four layers of fleece) for extra absorbancy, or just one set at a time. When you change your baby, you can reuse the outer straight away if it isn’t dirty.

I’m liking

Baby First nappies are very reasonably priced and great performers. I’ve only experienced one leak with these (a small urine leak from a very full nappy), as the elasticated waist and leg openings fit snugly like a disposable and contain things really well. The leg gussets are particularly good for this.

They come in a nice range of colours and are sold in cute recycled cardboard boxes. You buy each set separately so they make a great gift for a baby shower – families can try them out without buying a dozen.

They wash and dry really easily, too. The double-layered inners dry really fast (two layers joined at each end, so there’s more surface area for drying, I guess), as do the very light outers.

They’re also not too bulky if you only use one inner, so clothes fit fine over them.

Things that made me go hmmmm

I often have to think twice about which way around they go. I *think* the snaps go towards the back rather than like disposables where the fastening happens at the front. It’s sort of un-intuitive for me and where the labels are doesn’t quite settle the matter.

The conclusion

These nappies are great! They are comfy, cute and a bargain. They wash and dry easily and are great performers in the all-important leak-proof stakes. Give a pack to every new mum you know.

  1. I agree these are reasonably priced and wash well, bowever I have found they leak more often than other cloth nappies and sometimes the inserts slip around since they are not fixed into the nappy in a pocket.
