When you can’t get to sleep at night, listen to a story fuelled by fright! There will be mermaids, ghouls and perhaps a hag, with sights and sounds sure to make you gag.

I was initially unsure what to expect as the promotional information for Grimm sounded a little dark, but was quickly reassured that I wasn’t going to be dealing with any nightmares tonight. Anything featuring humour about bodily functions is going to always win with my 2 boys aged 7 and 10 and Grimm covered this base well, and a few others beside.

The humble OHP of my school days was given a new lease of life with the clever use of shadowing and puppets. The length of the show (50mins) was perfect for the audience and kept the kids interested with interaction encouraged. A really nice touch was the use of the kid’s drawings and scary ideas collected prior the show, the excitement of the artist seeing their creation as part of the show could be audibly heard. It’s worth going early just to have this involvement.

The only shame was that the theatre wasn’t full, so more kids didn’t get to experience the fun. Grimm Bedtime stories is part of the comedy festival and is a great introduction to live theatre for kids. My boys rated it “very funny” and “fantastic” and thought it would be good for kids aged 6-12.
