Star Wars is the latest game for the Xbox Kinect 360. It’s a wee stroke of genius really, ‘cos who doesn’t want to be a Jedi Knight???

I’m liking

Waving a light sabre around and using The Force to beat your opponents is very physical and great fun. We’ve used this game several times now and each time worked up a good sweat!

The game play was relatively intuitive and like all of the Kinect games I’ve tried, it’s easy to get going. The graphics were also great. They realistically portrayed Star Wars characters and settings and there was nice use of key characters such as Jabba the Hut and R2D2.

Th dual player mode worked well and the characters interacted well.

Things that made me go hmmmm

Generally speaking, it was really easy to work out how to make the movements- except moving forward, which we found a bit tricky- perhaps a little more instruction on this needed? Similarly, several people had trouble getting the light sabre to block to the left. We tried this in two different settings so I’m pretty sure it wasn’t just our small lounge.

The conclusion

This is a great game. My husband is a total Star Wars fan and he loved it but you don’t need to be into Star Wars to appreciate this game. The subtleties were probably lost on me but it was still fun.

It’s probably not for those who love really involved, hard-core games but it’s great fun and really social. We had a enormous fun playing it with different friends and will probably continue to knobble visitors to play it with us.

We didn’t try the dance mode but hear that they’ve ‘star war-ified’ the lyrics of the songs-which has had mixed reviews in other places! We’re looking forward to trying it ourselves 😉
