My Food Bag is a brand new idea in New Zealand. It’s simple: Every week, Masterchef winner, Nadia and her team of Test Chefs dream up exciting and nutritious dinner recipes and then every week (or fortnight) they deliver the ingredients and recipes right to your door. Genius!

I’m liking

I wasn’t sure about this concept to begin with but I’ve really come around to it. Every time my delivery arrives, I feel excited about what I’m going to get! I’m kinda fussy about food and I was nervous that I wouldn’t like the meals, but so far, I’ve been really pleased at the way that the recipes seem to catch my interest. I’ve also found it easy to modify meals for picky children.

The food is really high quality. It’s mostly organic and the veges are always fresh.

The thing I love the most about My Food Bag is that it takes the ‘Sigh… what shall we have for dinner?’ out of my day. All of the meals are there, the ingredients are there and it doesn’t take long to put together. It’s really nice to cook some meals that are new to our table and I like the wide range of ingredients. I’ve already found some new ingredients that will be regulars in my shopping from now on.

Things that made me go hmmmm

Let’s be honest, this is not a cheap way to do your cooking. At $189 for the classic bag, it’s at the pricey end. However, the servings are generous and I’ve found that I can usually make each meal last for two meals for us. I’ve also found that we’ve been less likely to buy takeaways or go out because everything is there and ready to go.

The meals also tend to have less in the way of veges than I would normally cook but it’s easy enough to throw in some more veges.

The conclusion

A great concept and it’s been a real hit in my house. If you’re tired of the daily grind of meals and want some inspiration, then this is a great way to go!
