One of my favourite things to do is try new buggies. A bit sad, I know, but I use my buggy a lot and I’m fascinated by how they are engineered for babies and kiddos and also for parents. So, of course, I was more than happy to check out the new Mountain Buggy MB Mini – a new ultra-light buggy that is perfect for around town.
I’m liking
Somewhere between a full sized buggy and a stroller, this buggy is compact and light. It weighs less than 8kg and is perfect for popping in an out of the boot of your car.
This buggy is a stripped back version of the Mountain Buggys that we know and love – which is why it’s so gorgeously light. The parcel travel is not as deep as other in other buggies (and is also made of mesh, not canvas) but still allows enough room for a few essentials.
My husband particularly loved the automatic frame lock that snaps the buggy together when its folded up. It means that it stays compact when folded and you don’t get the buggy unfolding on you as you load and load it from the car.
As I mentioned in the peppyâ„¢ review, I love, love love the way that Mountain Buggy products work together and I *really* like the way that the peppyâ„¢ and the MB Mini work together. With the clever travel system, you can pop your baby into the capsule and then straight into the buggy if they’re still sleeping. On thing that has put me off the travel system in the past is the idea of having to take the buggy seat on and off – especially if you are using the buggy for different aged children. However, the MB Mini is really easy to ‘undress’ and the zips on the side mean that it’s no fuss at all.
And because aesthetics are important, it’s essential that I tell you that you can personalise your Mini with different coloured hoods 🙂 Cute!!
Things that made me go hmmmm
Unlike other styles of Mountain Buggy, the Mini doesn’t have an adjustable handle and this is something to be aware of. My husband is 6’2″ and he hates the umbrella stroller that I bought a while ago as the handle is too low for him. I made him test this buggy and he felt that the handle was high enough… just. If you are tall and plan to use this buggy to do a lot of walking, it’d be worth testing it first to make sure that you are comfortable with the handle height.
My current Mountain Buggy has suspension and I definitely noticed the lack of suspension in the MB Mini… it’s a slightly rougher ride than the models with suspension. However, Mountain Buggy is so clever with their engineering, and even without suspension, it’s no trouble getting this buggy over curbs and other bumps. Having said this, this buggy is clearly designed for city walking and if you do a bit of off road walking, you might like to consider a model with suspension.
The conclusion
This buggy is exactly what it sets out to be – a brilliant, compact buggy for around town. It’s compact enough for small cars and at $549 it’s competitively priced. If you do a lot of walking around town, I’d highly recommend checking it out!!
